One of the most important things that many music producers overlook regarding their home recording studio is the desk. Now if you already have a decent desk but you can use it for your home recording studio, you may want to invest your money in other items.

Keep in mind you will be spending a lot of time at your desk when recording and creating tracks. If you are having other artists work at your home recording studio, investing in a higher quality desk is a smart investment.

You want to use a desk design that will be functional but at the same time healthy on your wallet. In the research we have done, here are the best home recording studio desks and designs.

What do I use for my home recording studio?

Since I don’t do a lot of recording of voice and instruments with my home recording studio, I double my writing desk for my home recording studio. I primarily use my midi keyboard to create tracks. So, I don’t need a whole lot of space on my desk.

I recently upgraded to a height-adjustable desk. Check out current prices on Amazon here

Here are some other options that should make a great home recording studio.

Z-Line Designs Cyrus Workstation

We like the dark temporary design with a clear tempered glass on top. This is a great option for those who have a small space for their home recording studio.

A smart design option would be to use the pull-out keyboard tray for a smaller midi keyboard and keep your typing keyboard and mouse on the glass portion of the desk.

The top portion of this model is much stronger than regular glass which makes it ideal for adding somewhat heavy equipment top.

The Z-Line Cyrus Workstation also has rollers for easy movement in a small space and a large bottom area for your desktop towers or other equipment that you may need. You can check the current prices on Amazon here.

On Stage WS7500 Wood Workstation

If you have a very small work area for your home music studio, the On-Stage WS7500 Wood Workstation could be a good fit.

This workstation desk has a small shelf up top for studio monitors and a larger main base top for your screens, microphones, and audio interfaces.

Below, there is a pull-out tray for your computer’s keyboard and mouse.

Reviews tend to be favorable on Amazon and other review sites, where users have stated at even though it is a small desk, it is sturdy and able to handle a ton of equipment. You can check current prices on Amazon here.

Walker Edison 3-Piece Contemporary Desk

I own this three-piece contemporary desk and have had it for the last 8 years. I do not use it for my home recording studio anymore, but when I did, it served me well when I started making tracks.

When I bought my current desk, I gave it to my mom for her to use with her computer. It is one of the least expensive options for your home recording studio, but you do sacrifice some things when purchasing this desk.

The first thing that I must say about this desk is that there is very little storage for your desktop, studio monitors, headphones, and audio interfaces.

If you use laptops predominantly for an iMac which has the Monitor and computer in one item, then this desk may work better for you. However, you only have one flat level of space, so use it wisely.

Also, with its curved design, it should be ideally placed in the corner of the room.

Maybe not the best if you’re recording voice with other artists, but certainly good enough for music producers who only create beats. You can check current prices on Amazon here.

Studio RTA Producer Station

Even though this desk is a bit more expensive than some of the other options on this list, we think is one of the better-designed models. We like the many areas for audio equipment that you can use.

There are also wheels on the bottom of the desk for easy movement and change of design if you feel like it.

Honestly, you won’t need much more than this in the long term. Plenty of room for a full size 88 key keyboard on top, cable organizers in the back for a clean design, and a second sliding tray up top for whatever you can fit.

It also comes in both maple and cherry finishes depending on your preference.

Comparable desks of this size and features can cost well over $1500-$3000. The Studio RTA Producer Station is considerably less expensive. You can check the current prices on Amazon here.

Going all out with your home recording studio desk

If you were going all out with your home recording studio desk, then you may want to consider some of these more expensive options. Remember these can be a bit overkill, but if you have the money to spend, you might as well get the best.

These four options from AZ Studio workstations offer plenty of room for your keyboards, audio interfaces, studio monitors, visual display monitors and other interfaces that you may need. They also look amazing!
